For us the most impressive of those 2 bouts saw Louis Cuddy (10-0, 4) moving in to double figures as he over-came the tough and always durable Moses Matovu (4-35-4) over 6 relatively 1-sided rounds. Whilst Cuddy's result was never in doubt Paul Drago (5-0) was fortunate to claim another victory as Tomas Mrazek (8-45-6, 5) took him incredibly close in a bout that probably should have ended with a draw rather than a victory for Drago.
This past Sunday saw the final British card of the year and it featured 2 Heavyweight contests.

Sometimes the action in the Heavyweight division can be some what lacking. That's exactly what we had this past Friday with the only bouts that we have results for coming at a very low level.
In Hungary this saw Tibor Balogh (12-1-2, 8) stopping Zoltan Somosi (15-10, 7) inside a round. It took just a round longer for Nikola Milacic (2-0, 2) to get rid of Radovan Kuca (0-10-1) in nearby Germany. In Britain we had two bouts, the most telling of which was a 16 second (yes, you read that right) blast out by Adam Machaj (2-0, 2) who took out Deyan Mihailov (1-5-2) in amazingly quick fashion. Machaj was joined by on that card by Paul Drago (4-0) (original name Pavelas Nevedomskis) who managed to out point Danny Fleary (2-0) over 4 rounds. The highest profile bout of the night was in the US as Elijah McCall (12-3-1, 11) swiftly dispatched of the limited Ricky Thompson (3-7-1, 2) who suffered his fifth stoppage loss in 11 bouts courtesy of a first round TKO. Britain's Dereck Chisora (16-4, 11) scored his second win in 5 fights as he became the first man to defeat America's Malik Scott (35-1-1, 12) by a highly controversial 6th round KO.
The fight was incredibly even through the opening 5 rounds with both men having their success though the controversy struck close to the end of round 6 as Scott went down from a cuffing blow. Fully in control of his senses and showing a full understanding of his surroundings Scott stared at the referee before getting to his feet at the count of 9. Despite Scott getting up before the referee had counted to 10 the referee waved off the bout, a decision which is likely to further put off top international fighters from visiting Britain. We watch fights from around the world and want to see the biggest fights take place around the planet but issues like this really are making British boxing difficult to take seriously. British based Lithuanian prospect Paul Drago (3-0) also recorded a victory in the UK as he out pointed James Oliphant (0-4-2) for the second time. Oliphant, coming in to the bout following a draw with former British Cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin, was able to claim 1 round but not do enough to derail the Drago express. Also in Britain was a victory for Stevie Taylor (4-0, 1) who stopped Lee Kellett (4-5-2, 3) in 3 rounds. Kellett, who is much better than his record indicates, was down in the 3rd round and left needing several stitches after this loss which suggests that Taylor his much harder than his record may indicate. |
